Why do microphones need to have a windscreen?
Microphones need windscreens to protect the microphone diaphragm from gusts of air. Without a windscreen, outdoor wind noise or breathing can cause loud pops in the audio signal, which can be distracting and interfere with the quality of the recording. Windscreens break up gusts of air before they interact with the microphone diaphragm, allowing sound waves to pass through while redirecting wind away from the diaphragm. This helps to prevent unwanted noise and maintain the clarity of the audio recording.
What is SchulzFoam©?
SchulzFoam© is a type of foam material used in the production of microphone windscreens. It is a proprietary material from the company Schulze-Brakel, which is used in their microphone windscreens production.
SchulzFoam© is a great accessory for your audience and perfect for advertisement. The sound quality is hardly affected by the acoustically transparent foam. SchulzFoam allows you to keep recording even high frequencies, while wind and pop noise is reduced. SchulzFoam© has 99% open pores in the heart of the product, which makes it incredibly resistant to harmful influences of moisture and UV light.
Why are microphone windscreens a branding tool?
Windscreens of the Premium Line are an essential accessory for microphone recording, that serves to prevent wind noise and protect the microphone's diaphragm. Having a high-quality windscreen, can improve sound quality and provide a better recording experience.

When should you use a microphone windscreen of the Prmium Line?
A microphone windscreen should be used in situations where there is a potential for wind noise or unwanted breath sounds to be picked up by the microphone.
Outdoor recording:
Wind can be a major problem when recording outdoors, as it can cause distracting noise in the recording. A windscreen can help to reduce or eliminate this noise.
Interviews :
Windscreens can be used to reduce the sound of a person’s breath when they are speaking during an interview.
Broadcasting:
A windscreen can be used to reduce wind noise when broadcasting live from an outdoor location.
Film and video production:
Windscreens can be used to reduce wind noise on the audio track of a film or video recording.
Indoor recording near HVAC systems or fans:
Even when recording indoors, wind noise can be a problem if the microphone is placed near a source of forced air.
Pop filter: Pop filter can be used to reduce the impact of plosive sounds.
Protecting a microphone:
Windscreens can also be used to protect microphones from dirt and saliva, and can be replaced to restore the microphone to a like-new state.
It’s always good practice to test the windscreen in the location where it will be used, and to use multiple windscreens for protection.
Which windscreen should you choose?
When buying a windscreen for your microphone, there are several important factors to consider, including the microphone's type and size, the amount of noise reduction required, and the windscreen's ability to maintain acoustic clarity. It is essential to select a windscreen that fits tightly on your microphone to eliminate any gaps that could allow air to disrupt the diaphragm's function.
For handheld microphones, universal foam windscreens are a reliable choice. Ensure that the windscreen fully covers any openings on the microphone's grill. For shotgun microphones, specialized windscreens are available that accommodate the long shape of the mic; be sure to choose one that fits well without too much excess space.
The most significant factor to consider when choosing a windscreen is noise attenuation, which refers to its ability to reduce unwanted sound. Directional microphones, like shotgun mics, are particularly vulnerable to wind noise, so opting for a fur windjammer or a basket windscreen can provide enhanced protection.
Additionally, it's important to think about the windscreen's acoustic transparency. Generally, a windscreen with more layers will be less transparent. However, high-quality options can effectively minimize wind noise while maintaining audio integrity.
Why is it necessary to replace the microphone windscreen periodically?
As time passes, the windscreen can suffer from wear and tear, collecting dust and potentially allowing foreign particles to reach the microphone, which can cause it to malfunction. Moreover, exposure to ultraviolet light can significantly shorten the windscreen's lifespan.
